Would multifocal contact lenses work for me?

Case Study

Patient X came in as they are struggling to read in their contact lenses, and they do not like the idea of wearing a ready reader over the top. They were due an eye examination and contact lens annual, so we booked them in with one of our Optometrists. Patient X and the Optometrist discussed the different options and decided a multifocal contact lens would be the best option. The Optometrist ordered some trial contact lenses for the patient to try and made an appointment for them to come back in a few weeks to see how they get on.

 What are multifocal contact lenses?

Multifocal contact lenses are a type of contact lens that has two powers. Similar to how a bifocal lens works in spectacles. Wearing a multifocal lens will allow you to seamlessly alternate between different activities.

The appointment

Patient X arrived at the appointment in good spirits. The lenses fitted well, and the patient was able to read a book but also see the trees on the strawberry line clearly. They were given some trial contact lenses to see how they get on and made an appointment to come back a week later to confirm they were happy.

A week later Patient X returned to the practice for their appointment. The Optometrist was happy with how the lenses were fitting and the patient was still happy with the clarity of the vision and the convenience of no longer needing ready readers. Patient X was put on a yearly recall, and we will check again then.
